Frequently Asked Questions About Dive Sites from Koh Nangyuan

How do I get to dive sites from Koh Nangyuan?

Duck n Dive operates daily dive trips from our center on Koh Nangyuan. For Japanese Gardens and Twins Bay, you simply walk from our dive center into the water – no boat required. For White Rock and other Koh Tao sites, we use our dedicated wooden dive boat (approximately 10–20 minutes travel). For Sail Rock and Chumphon Pinnacle, we use our three-engine speedboat (approximately 20-50 minutes depending on conditions and site).

Can beginners dive at all these sites?

Not all sites are suitable for beginners. Japanese Gardens and Twins Bay are perfect for beginners and Discover Scuba Diving experiences. White Rock is suitable for Open Water certified divers with recent experience. Sail Rock and Chumphon Pinnacle are recommended for Advanced Open Water divers due to depth and potential currents. Your instructor or divemaster will assess your experience level before any dive.

Which dive site is best for seeing whale sharks?

Sail Rock and Chumphon Pinnacle offer the best chance of encountering whale sharks in the Gulf of Thailand, most commonly from March through June. While sightings are never guaranteed, these offshore pinnacles act as cleaning stations and feeding grounds for these gentle giants.

Do I need to book in advance for specific dive sites?

For Japanese Gardens and Twins Bay, you can dive on the day – just speak to our dive center team. For White Rock and other Koh Tao boat dives, we recommend booking a day in advance. For Sail Rock and Chumphon Pinnacle, advance booking is essential as these trips require good conditions and minimum group sizes.

Can I dive multiple sites in one day?

Yes. Our daily boat trips typically include two dives at different sites (e.g., White Rock and another Koh Tao site). For speedboat trips to Sail Rock, we usually do both dives at Sail Rock due to the travel distance, but the site is large enough that you won’t feel repetitive.

Are dive sites weather-dependent?

Yes. While Japanese Gardens and Twins Bay are sheltered and diveable in most conditions, offshore sites like White Rock, Sail Rock, and Chumphon Pinnacle are subject to weather and current conditions. Usually it is possible to dive year round, as at least one side of Koh Tao will be sheltered from any waves. Your safety is our priority – our dive manager will advise on the day which sites are suitable.

Is HTMS Suphairin 313 suitable for beginner divers?

The wreck is best suited for Advanced Open Water or confident Open Water divers due to its depth (11-27 meters) and the need for good buoyancy control around the structure. Exterior exploration is accessible to Open Water divers with recent experience, but penetration requires Wreck Specialty certification. Your Duck n Dive guide will assess your comfort level before the dive.
